Happy Birthday, Cotton Cuts!

What began as a small spark of inspiration has grown into nine years

of shared passion and creativity.

In October 2016, Cotton Cuts shipped its very first box. Like many small business stories, it began with someone searching for a service that didn’t quite exist—and deciding to create it. That’s exactly what Kim did. She wanted to subscribe to a monthly service that sent curated fabric and quilting ideas, but what she found were one-size-fits-all boxes filled with fabrics she didn’t love and projects she’d probably never make. So she thought, Wouldn’t it be great if you could customize your preferences and receive a box full of fabrics you actually love and want to work with? And just like that, Cotton Cuts was born.

Cotton Cuts began in Kim’s basement, where early employees came to work right at her home—until the constant buzz of activity had the neighbors wondering what was going on. As the business grew, we moved into the Chesterfield Mall, unsure how long we’d be able to stay before the mall’s long-anticipated demolition. Fortunately, that space served us well for six wonderful years. When the time finally came for the mall to make way for new and exciting developments, we moved just a few miles down the road to our current home—and we’re absolutely loving it.

Our Classic Box was our very first product—a true “first-born” in the Cotton Cuts family. It was created with the idea of delivering a monthly fabric box tailored to each subscriber’s personal preferences. We asked about favorite colors and tones, quilting styles, preferred fabric cuts, and patterns—everything needed to ensure that every box would be a delightful surprise and perfectly suited to each quilter.

Next came Modern Maker, giving subscribers the chance to explore the latest and greatest from trending fabric designers. From there, we expanded with Chroma and Java. Chroma offered top-of-the-line threads to keep your sewing smooth and enjoyable, while Java brought the beauty of batik fabrics straight to your sewing table, adding rich color and texture to every project.

We also offer our most popular program, the Puzzle Mystery Quilt, with Under the Sea being our 19th edition. Each month, a new clue arrives, guiding you step by step as the quilt comes together. With pre-cut pieces from your chosen colorway and easy-to-follow instructions, it’s a fun, fast-paced way to complete a beautiful quilt. By the end of the program, your quilt comes to life in full color and design—ready to show off or share with someone special.

Other additions to our lineup include Snippets and Stitch-its, along with special limited-edition projects like our monthly Gnomes, Floral States of America, Rosa’s Holiday Your Way, a variety of Mini Mysteries, and our exciting new Mystery50. And the fun doesn’t stop there—2026 is already shaping up with several retreats on the calendar. Just wait until you see what we’ve dreamed up next; it’s going to be a year full of color, creativity, and quilting magic!
