Meet Vickeidy Plybon
The Maker Behind September’s Clue 8

September brings another talented quilter to Cotton Cuts’ Mystery with a Mission, and this month we’re excited to welcome Vickeidy Plybon of Sewspicious to the sewing team.
If you know Vickeidy’s work, you probably recognize her for her modern quilt designs, vibrant use of color and intricate patterns. But her path to becoming a quilt designer wasn’t exactly a straight line. In fact, quilting entered her life almost by accident.
Vickeidy was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and now calls New York City home. Sewing, however, has been part of her family history for generations. She is a fourth-generation sewist, growing up surrounded by her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and their love of sewing. Her mother even studied fashion design and ran a custom clothing business.
Even with that sewing background, Vickeidy didn’t begin quilting until 2018.
Her quilting journey actually started with vintage sewing machines. In 2017, she began refurbishing vintage machines and, while researching a Singer 221, discovered that the machine was considered a favorite among quilters. Naturally, she started researching quilting—and quickly fell in love with it. The following year, she made quilting her New Year’s resolution. It didn’t take long for that resolution to become a passion.
By 2022, Vickeidy had begun designing and writing her own quilt patterns, turning her love of quilting into the creative business known as Sewspicious.
Modern Quilting with a Timeless Feel

Sewspicious is home to Vickeidy’s quilt patterns, tutorials, quilt-alongs and other quilting inspiration. Her design style blends traditional quilting techniques with contemporary designs, creating quilts that feel both familiar and fresh.
Color is an important part of that work. Vickeidy gravitates toward bold, vibrant combinations and intricate patterns. She has also been open about the fact that creating cohesive color stories hasn’t always come naturally to her. In fact, she has written about studying the work of other quilters and designers to improve her own understanding of color.
That willingness to keep learning is one of the things that makes her story so relatable. Even experienced designers continue to experiment, learn and find inspiration in the quilting community.
Her Sewspicious pattern collection includes designs such as Braided Together, Big Solstice Bloom, Carlita, Winter Blossom and Midnight Garden.
Vickeidy also enjoys teaching and bringing quilters together. In 2025, she hosted a six-week Winter Blossom Quilt Along, guiding participants through the project week by week. Her QAL philosophy was encouraging and approachable: quilters could participate at their own pace, with the weekly information remaining available for those who needed to catch up.
Bringing That Experience to Mystery with a Mission

Now Vickeidy is bringing her sewing skills to Cotton Cuts for Clue 8 of Mystery with a Mission.
The project is more than a mystery quilt, though. It is a quilt with a purpose.
Cotton Cuts created Mystery with a Mission to support the Social Justice Sewing Academy, bringing together quilters, designers and makers to create a quilt that will ultimately be shared through a charity raffle. Every participant contributes a piece of the story, and Vickeidy’s September clue is the latest step in bringing the finished quilt together.
Want to support the mission and have a chance to take home the finished quilt? Raffle tickets are available now, with proceeds benefiting the Social Justice Sewing Academy. Sewspicious Meets Cotton Cuts
For Vickeidy, Clue 8 is another opportunity to do what she does best—sit down at the sewing machine, work with fabric and become part of a larger quilting community.
And for those following Mystery with a Mission, September gives us another piece of the puzzle to watch unfold.
We may not know exactly what the finished quilt will look like yet, but that’s part of the fun. With every clue, another quilter adds their contribution, and the mystery gets a little closer to being solved.
Thank you, Vickeidy, for lending your time, talent and love of quilting to a project that is bringing makers together for a meaningful cause.
And to all of our Cotton Cuts detectives: Clue 8 is in the hands of Sewspicious. Let’s see what she sews!
