Raija Salomaa is an award-winning quilter, designer, lecturer, and instructor. She has been quilting for over thirty years and designs quilts under her business name Quilters’ Treasure Chest. Her designs have appeared in several national quilting magazines. Just like any Finn, Raija was introduced to sewing during her early years in elementary school. But it wasn't until she moved to States that she saw her first quilt. And, you guessed it, it was love at first sight! She soon started to share her newfound passion, both by designing and writing her own patterns, as well as teaching. Her first designs were smaller quilt projects which she shared initially only with her closest friends, teaching them at her dining room table. This kickstarted her desire to design and teach even more, leading to work with various fabric companies, and teaching at various public venues, including quilting cruises. Raija’s goal for her designs and teaching is for quilters to have fun, learn a lot, and create memorable keepsakes.
Raija is a certified instructor for Studio 180 Design and loves to come and share her passion, tricks, and tips with fellow quilters around the globe!
In addition to quilting, Raija loves to travel and explore new places! Raija also enjoys dancing, and in fact, she met her husband at a Finnish folk dance group in Los Angeles! Raija and her husband are the proud parents of two creative daughters, and make their home in picturesque Northwest Arkansas.
