Let's Talk with Amber about our PMQ

Posted by Robyn Thomas on 27th Jul 2023

If you want to know all there is to know about a Puzzle Mystery Quilt, just ask our Ambassadors. With each new PMQ, we love making sure you will see many familiar faces as well as introducing you to knew Ambassadors embarking on the PMQ journey for the first time.

With our current PMQ Village Green, we were lucky enough to add Amber Marriott of Sew Majestic to our esteemed list of Ambassadors. Amber is currently sewing the Cornflower colorway for Village Green. And with our newest PMQ Carnival starting up, you can follow Amber as she sews Lemonade, a gorgeous colorway featuring fabrics by Alison Glass from her Thicket/Sunprints 2023 collection by Andover Fabrics.

Amber discovered our Puzzle Mystery Quilts in much the same way so many of our loyal detectives find Cotton Cuts. She heard about it from Jessica of Oklaroots, who was discussing the PMQ on her platform several years ago. Amber first participated in Sparkle and Shine, completing her first quilt ever, at the same time she was learning to sew bags. Quilting was a new skill for Amber, and she found the PMQ to be the perfect starting point.

We asked Amber why she was interested in becoming an Ambassador when we approached her for Village Green. She said "At the time I was still relatively new to sewing and quilting. I wanted others to see that if I could do it, they could too. Also, my scant 1/4 inch isn't always perfect, and my sizing isn't always 100% accurate. I wanted others to see that you don't need to be perfect to still complete a beautiful finished product."

We also asked her what her favorite part of sewing a PMQ was. "It is that everything is cut out and ready to go for me. I don't have to put any time into prepping the pieces and can get right to sewing. I also really enjoy the PMQ community on social media. Everyone is so supportive of each other and it is so awesome to see everyone posting their completed blocks each month."

These are also the features that she feels appeal to her followers as well. She continues "The pieces are cut, the pattern is laid out with full instructions, and everything is nicely packaged and labeled for you. It makes it perfect for someone who wants to sew, but doesn't always have a lot of time or someone who struggles with the cutting and prepping process."

We are thrilled that Amber's followers have provided positive feedback and are happy with their decision to join the PMQ as well. She says that her followers are excited each month to receive their next package, start their sewing, and anxious to see how this mystery all comes together.

In addition to being a full-time teacher and PMQ Ambassador, Amber also keeps busy with other sewing projects. We asked what else she has been working on. "Most of the other projects I'm working on are bags. That's what really got me into sewing. I have actually written two bag patterns so far and am hoping to complete some more this summer. I'm a teacher for my day job, so summer is when I have the time to work on all the extra projects. I've also cut out and started piecing a quilt for a family member. It's my first quilt I've ever had to cut out myself so it's been time consuming, but I'm enjoying it. Quilting has been a nice break from bagmaking."

And finally, we asked Amber how she felt about beginning her second PMQ as a Cotton Cuts Ambassador. Needless to say, she, like everyone else, is ready to get the party started. "I'm so excited that I get to sew up Lemonade! I really love Alison Glass as a designer and this specific colorway uses colors that I normally wouldn't choose. I'm really looking forward to sewing up something different and seeing how it all comes together. All the colorways for Carnival are so good! I've really enjoyed seeing on social media which colorways people have chosen and I can't wait for it to start!"

So be sure to check out Amber's social media platforms. You will find her on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. You can follow her as she sews Cornflower, as well as checking out her Lemonade journey.

But don't stop there. Make sure to take a look at all of her beautiful projects. If you are looking for a new journey, you won't go wrong starting to put your own bag together with Amber's guidance.

Amber is one amazing and talented creator. Cotton Cuts is thrilled to have her on board as one of our Ambassadors and we can't wait to see what she does next. Thanks for joining us for the Carnival, Amber.
