Introducing Our Newest Ambassador - Emily Moore

11th Jul 2020

Meet Emily Moore!

Emily has just joined us as our newest Classic box Ambassador! She was selected from a long list of talented and creative sewists.

To get to know Emily a little better, we’ve asked her a few questions:

How long have you been sewing?

I bought my first sewing machine 6 years ago, but it wasn’t until January of 2019 when I really took it seriously and found my passion!

How did you learn to sew?

Self taught through YouTube videos and tutorials, and now I am actually starting to pay it forward! I myself am filming beginner friendly tutorials for family, friends and my followers! I have loved teaching and showing others what they’re capable of creating!

What is your favorite thing to sew?

I absolutely love making bags, zipper pouches, key fobs, and just recently getting into quilt blocking!

What is your favorite thing about sewing?

The finished product. Every time. It’s when I have reached the last step of installing a bag lining and needing to turn my project right side out. I’ll pace in my sewing room while turning it, and sometimes shake because it's a bag I am so anxious to see finished. I love giving each item I make its own little photo shoot, and then just staring at what I created. It blows my mind every time to see something in front of me that exists because of my hands, some needle and thread, and some adorable fabrics. Its such a high for me and I immediately jump into thinking about what I can do next!

What is your favorite item you have ever sewn?

My favorite item I have sewn has got to be this Bonnie Bucket Bag Pattern by Swoon. That shaky feeling of turning my bag right side out like I just talked about. That happened big time with this bag. It was just one of those projects that went smoothly from start to finish. I mean, the dreaded seam ripper was sitting on the corner of my table like “What? You really don’t need me?” LOL It was the first time I felt like I was reaching that professional level of bag making that I have been trying so hard to get to. I have made some gorgeous bags since then, adding more hardware, rivets, and all the bells and whistles, but it was this bag that made me feel like I was truly growing, and it surprised me. And the cherry on top? The woman who owns it is a die hard Thirty One lover(but I mean who isn’t?), and even she admitted its her first purse outside of Thirty One in years. Talk about the best feeling ever. So yea, this is definitely one of my favorites I have ever sewn!

Share something interesting with us.

I bought a little $90 brother sewing machine back in 2014. I started to dabble in making dog bandanas and actually grew super frustrated with sewing. LOL I just did not have the patience. Fast forward to 2019. It's a new year and I loved crafting. MOOREtoMeDesigns started out as a little Etsy shop where I personalized stuffed elephants with birth info, did iron on designs for baby clothes and sort of anything else I could think of while being a stay at home mom to my new baby girl.

But with crafting, I just was always craving more. I made it a New Years resolution to try my hand in sewing. I mean I had the sewing machine. It was covered in dust but hey it worked! I sewed up a few fleece baby blankets to go with my Etsy shop, but to be honest, I just was growing bored so quickly.

It was around spring time when I made my first set of key fobs and a few tote bags after watching a couple YouTube tutorials. My family and friends snatched them up instantly. So I made more, and more, and suddenly my little business turned to full on sewing bags and fobs.  I said goodbye to personalizing baby items, and put my full focus on growing my skills with sewing. With just YouTube as my teacher, I got to where I am today. MOOREtoMeDesigns got its official DBA in August of 2019 and I just about sold out of my very first craft fair in November. Sewing stuck with me, and its been a place I never get bored of, because there Is always something new to learn. It was a skill and passion I didn’t even know I had in me, but I’m hooked for life, and so thankful I get to do what I love everyday!
