At Cotton Cuts, we are die cutting machines! We cut about 75,000 - 100,000 triangles, squares and strips each month and have been swimming in die cut scraps. We are fabric enthusiasts and simply cannot throw these lovelies away. We thought we could use some help putting them to good use and we wanted a fun summer challenge for all of you! Enter the Challenge!

DETAILS:

How does the challenge work?

Our challenge will run from April 22nd - June 11th, 2024 and is open to anyone, any age/skill level and worldwide! Projects can be made using any Cotton Cuts scrap bag - past or present. Scrap Bags can be purchased HERE.

CATEGORIES:

We realize that you may not have time to make a full quilt top if time does not allow so we will have two categories so everyone can join.

1. Single Item Category - This category will constitute ANY single item, any size made using a Cotton Cuts scrap bag – pillow, zipper pouch, bag, accessory – anything you want to make that does not fall into our second quilt category below.

2. Quilt Category - This category will be made up of quilts. This can be a quilt top or complete quilt. Scrap Bags can be combined with fabric from your stash to make any quilt of your choice – you determine the size, pattern or no pattern, quilt top or complete finished quilt.

FAQ’s:

What comes in a scrap bag?

Each bag is slightly less than a pound (saves on shipping costs!) and consists of scraps from our Puzzle Mystery Quilt. Every time we cut the parts and pieces out from the cutter, scraps are left behind. Add to that miscuts and we end up with a lot of scrap fabric perfectly paired to a scrap quilter. Each grab bag is a potpourri - strips range from 13-21" long and about 2" wide - with lots of random shapes and cuts perfect for the scrap enthusiast. For reference, a yard of linear fabric is approximately 6 oz, so each bag would be approximately a little more than 2 yards if continuous off the bolt.

How much of the scrap bags do I need to use in my project?

We don’t ask for a certain percentage of your project to be scrap bag, however we just ask that you incorporate more than a few pieces of scraps that are recognizable to qualify.

What if I don’t have a Cotton Cuts Scrap Bag?

If you are in the US, we are offering scrap bags for $10 (INCLUDES U.S. SHIPPING!) Here. We have limited quantities so if you want one, feel free to purchase one (or two!) before we run out.

Do you have any tips for my photograph?

Well lit photos usually do better - so if you can find a sunny spot, snap your photo there. Indirect sunlight is better than direct sunlight (try to find a shade spot on a bright day. Trim all the loose threads. Try to get a photo of your project front on - people like to be able to see all your fabric choices, accuracy and print designs in all their glory and sometimes angled shots hide that.  We don’t edit your photos. We submit them to the form and website just as they’re sent to us so please make sure you’ve provided a photo as big as you can of your project. It will help people see all your amazing work. Please ensure the file you send us is just the photo - additional graphics can limit how much of your project is seen in the form. Additionally, please only send one photo - the one that you would like featured.

Where can I find inspiration?

Good question! We created a Pinterest board to help inspire you that is full of quilts & books to help you get inspired (Click HERE) Https://Www.Pinterest.Com/Cottoncuts/From-Scraps-...

Does my item have to be new? Can I tag you in a photo of something I made from a scrap bag that I posted last year?

We ask out of fairness to the other contestants that the item be something that is not posted prior to April 22nd, 2024. We will look at the dates on the photos and consider all items posted after April 22nd, 2024 to be eligible to win

I have other questions! How can I get in touch with you?

We would love to chat! Feel free to email us at help@cottoncuts.com.

We are so excited and hope you’ll join us for our challenge!
